Bruce Barnbaum of Granite Falls, Washington, the artist in this issue’s portfolio, entered photography as a hobbyist in the 1960s; it has been his life’s work since 1970. He has taught workshops since 1972.
He is a regular contributor to PHOTO Techniques, as well as the author
of the books Visual Symphony, and The Art of Photography, An Approach to Personal Expression—a complete illustrated textbook on photography, delving into its technical, aesthetic, philosophical, and creative aspects—as well as Tone Poems Books 1 and 2, which combine photography with music.
Bruce is recognized as one of the world’s finest darkroom printers; his work is represented by more than 10 galleries throughout the United States and Canada, and is in the collections of museums and private collectors worldwide. His photography expands upon the dynamics he finds in both nature and the works of man, relating forces to the sweeping forms that dominate his imagery.
All photographs in this offering—which includes all the images in the portfolio—were made using his 4×5 Linhof Master Technika camera, with a variety of lenses ranging from 47mm to 500mm. Most images were made on Kodak Tri-X film, though a few were made on Kodak Technical Pan film.
Prints are 16×20 inches, made on Forte paper using an LPL enlarger with a 135mm Rodenstock lens. All prints are mounted on 22×28 archival mount board, and signed on the mount board immediately below the print, with the year the negative was exposed on the left side and Bruce’s signature on the right side. A stamp on the reverse side includes the negative number, the title of the image, the year the negative was exposed, and the year the print was made. They cost $1,200 each.
Orders must be placed by August 29, 2008.
